We are MavenBlue

MavenBlue was founded in Utrecht in 2016 by entrepreneurs from insurance software together with senior insurance risk professionals. Insurers had good models. What they did not have was a fast, controlled way to get those models into production. We built the cloud platform that closes that gap: one environment to develop, validate, deploy and monitor actuarial models. Many life, non-life and group insurers and managing general agents (MGAs) work with us today, across the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom and the United States. In 2026 we celebrate our tenth anniversary.

We are independent, and self funded, with a team of 25. There is no separate research department and no separate engineering department. Everyone here works close to both the mathematics and the code.

What we build

Pricing x Reserving x Capital Management. One platform to develop, validate, deploy and monitor models, carrying three disciplines:

  • Pricing. Develop technical and commercial tariffs, test the portfolio impact of every change, and deploy the exact model you built straight into production. Pricing becomes a continuous cycle: monitor, analyse, change, deploy.
  • Reserving. Generate cashflows at policy and portfolio level as the foundation for best estimate valuation, producing consistent and explainable figures for Solvency II and internal steering.
  • Capital Management. Project the full balance sheet under any scenario: forward looking analysis for ORSA and planning, solvency reporting and sensitivities, and economic scenario generation in one place.

One engine sits behind all three. The cashflows that support the reserves also drive the capital projections, so pricing, reserving and capital always tell one consistent story. And the model an actuary builds is the model that runs: nothing is rebuilt or retranslated on the way into the core system. Keeping that true across life, non-life and group business is the hardest and most interesting problem in the building.

What you would actually do

Most graduates in econometrics or actuarial science choose between an insurer and a consultancy. MavenBlue is a third option, and it is broader than writing code:

  • Design. Work out with customers what a model, a workflow or a product should look like before anyone builds it.
  • Build. Turn actuarial theory into software that has to be correct, fast and auditable. GLMs and elastic net for pricing. Cashflow engines and scenario generation, real world and risk neutral, for reserving and capital. Machine learning to compare realised results against expected and propose recalibrations. All of it cloud native and GPU accelerated, because turning hours of computation into minutes is something customers pay for.
  • Test and validate. Insurers set real premiums and file real solvency reports with our software. Proving that a model does what it claims is a discipline of its own here.
  • Implement. Sit with pricing actuaries and risk managers at insurers, migrate their models, and help them get genuine value out of the platform. A model nobody can operate is not worth much.
  • Push the frontier. Cloud actuarial computing, automated model deployment and real time rating are not solved problems. We work on them with customers, at conferences and in the actuarial community.
  • Help us scale. We already work across four countries and most of our growth is now outside the Netherlands. If you want a hand in building a European software company rather than joining a finished one, there is room for that.

The feedback loop is short and real. Work you do here ends up setting premiums and feeding solvency reports at companies with millions of policyholders.

How it is to work here

Twenty five people means no graduate programme, no rotation scheme and no year of shadowing someone senior. It also means you own a real piece of the product within months, and the founders are a few desks away.

We take security seriously because we have to. MavenBlue carries ISO 27001 certification and SOC 2 Type II assurance, and that shapes how we design, build and release. Our office is on the Maliebaan in Utrecht, a short walk from Utrecht Centraal.

Who we are looking for

Econometrics, actuarial science, mathematics, physics, computer science. The exact degree matters less than whether you enjoy both halves of the work: understanding why a model behaves the way it does, and caring whether the code around it is any good. Add curiosity about how insurers actually operate and some appetite for working with customers abroad, and you will fit. Insurance knowledge you can pick up here. We do not expect you to arrive with it.
