Reporting & Compliance

Reporting and compliance projects involve building the processes that produce accurate financial and regulatory reports. Banks, insurers, and pension funds must submit data on their financial position and risk exposures to regulators at regular intervals.

In this project you might implement a reporting process for IFRS 17 insurance contracts, build a data pipeline for regulatory capital reports, or set up controls to ensure the accuracy of supervisory disclosures.

Background

Financial institutions must report detailed data to regulators, auditors, and shareholders at regular intervals. These reports cover financial performance, risk exposures, and capital adequacy. The goal of a reporting and compliance project is to make sure that this data is accurate, consistent, and produced on time, and that the underlying processes meet regulatory expectations.

The work involves understanding the regulatory requirements that apply, translating them into data and calculation specifications, and building or improving the processes that produce the reports. You check data quality, investigate discrepancies, and work with finance and risk teams to resolve errors. Documenting the process clearly is important, as regulators may review how the numbers were produced.

The main tools are Python, SQL, and Excel. Knowledge of the relevant standard is central: IFRS 17 governs how insurance contracts are accounted for and requires detailed data on contract profitability; Basel IV sets out capital reporting requirements for banks. In the Netherlands, DNB and the AFM collect supervisory data from regulated institutions.

Reporting and compliance work appears across the Banking and Actuarial Sector sectors. It connects to the Risk Manager, Data Engineer, and Actuary roles. The work sits between finance, risk, and IT functions, and typically involves close collaboration across all three.
